The Beauty of Song

The Sibyl Center presents Kenneth and DeVera Bowles in The Beauty of Song, a program of romantic vocal duets and solos from classics and operas.

The Beauty of SongBoth performers are on the faculty of Minot State University. Dr. Kenneth Bowles is Chair of the Division of Music and Director of Choral Activities. In addition to his active schedule with choirs, he maintains a studio of voice students and teaches classes in choral pedagogy and conducting.

Outside the university setting, Dr. Bowles serves as Executive and Musical Director of the Western Plains Opera Company. He has regularly appeared as tenor soloist.

Kenneth Bowles holds degrees from Texas Christian University and the University of Oklahoma. Before coming to Minot in 1993, he served on the music faculties of Indiana University, Bloomington, and Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. He is a past president of the North Dakota American Choral Directors Association, a past director of the Minot Chamber Chorale, and a founding board member of the ND National Association of Teachers of Singing. Dr. Bowles frequently serves as clinician and guest conductor throughout North Dakota, western Montana, Canada and the International Peace Garden.

Dr. DeVera Bowles is Associate Professor of Voice. During her 15 years at the university, her students have won frequent top honors in annual senior honors competitions. She is a performer, teacher, clinician and sought-after adjudicator with an active performance schedule. Her New York debut was as soloist with Indiana University’s Chorus in Mozart's Grand Mass in C Minor performed at Alice Tully Hall. Dr. Bowles earned her degrees from Pfeiffer College, East Carolina University and most recently her doctorate from Texas Tech University.
