For the second year in a row, the Sibyl Center in Stanley kicks off its performance season with an appearance by Minot band, GreenMan, on Sunday, March 22. GreenMan features traditional Celtic music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany. The melding of these traditional influences, some hundreds of years old with contemporary arrangements, has created a unique sound in this four-piece band.
While many are familiar with classics like Danny Boy, most have little knowledge of other traditional songs. Since its start on St. Patricks Day in 1997, GreenMan has played traditional music for school children and at a wide range of other local venues and large regional heritage events such as the Norsk Hostfest and the Fargo Celtic Festival. These events help showcase the vitality of traditional music as its interest grows and adapts to the 21st century.
The name "GreenMan" originates from ancient Celtic myths. The Green Man was the wise man of the forest and represented the cycle of life found in nature.
The members of GreenMan are Justin Rasch on fiddle, Russ Hanson on guitar, Steve Files on the bodhran, and Kari Files on whistles and accordion.
There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.
