In Concert: Keith Bear
with daughters Christina and Sonya
A self-taught flute player and member of the Three Affiliated Tribes (Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara), Keith Bear has been performing since 1986.
His critically acclaimed performances include traditional flute playing, storytelling, and the sacred Buffalo Dance (a ceremony which only honored tribal members may perform), as well as Traditional, Grass, and Fancy dances. His accomplishments as a flute player and performer include extensive performances at schools, conventions, and state and national parks. During the summer of 1995, he made his professional acting debut in the feature film Dakota Sunrise.
He performed on QVC's Home Shopping Network and sold over 2,000 copies of his recording Echoes of the Upper Missouri in less than five minutes. As a member of the North Dakota Council on the Arts' Arts in Education Roster, he has consistently been one of the most frequently requested artists to perform residencies in schools. Keith lives in New Town, North Dakota on the Fort Berthold Reservation, where he spends his spare time making beadwork, quillwork and flutes. Source: Makoche Music, Bismarck; used with permission.
