Roof Project Begins at Sibyl Center

"A much needed repair began on the Sibyl Center in Stanley last Monday when the roofing project got underway. The project manager is Denver Howell, a 1957 Stanley High School graduate, who now lives in Billings, MT. Contractor for the job is Thiel Brothers Roofing of Sidney, MT.

"The project began with the complete removal of the old roof, both the original cedar shingles and the top asphalt roof. They will install an ice and water shield with Malarkey SBS shingles over that.

"Around the perimeter, a metal counter-flashing system will be installed that will seal all edges and aid in holding the concrete stones together.

"Howell is donating his time as a consultant, saving the Sibyl Center those costs. He says he is doing as a way to give a little back to Stanley, which he still considers his home.

"Howell found out about the Sibyl Center project through people he knew in town. He also says it was discussed at the last reunion.

"He decided then to make the contribution of his expertise and oversee the project until its completion. Howell has recently retired after 44 years of roofing, although he does still do some consulting and inspecting.

"The cost of the roofing project is estimated at around $40,000.00."
