Sibyl Center for Life Enrichment

Shegoband of Somalia, November 10

Shegoband of Somalia, Africa, performs at the Sibyl Center on Thursday, November 10 at 7:00 pm.

Shegoband is an energetic and versatile ensemble led by Shego Said. Their music is rooted in the traditional sounds and rhythms of the Somali culture, but they are equally comfortable with a more contemporary Somali sound. The traditional pieces will feature a Middle Eastern lute, known as the 'oud'.

Shegoband has toured widely in Canada, England and Scandinavia.

Available for viewing at concert time will be items from an exhibit by a Somalian photographer called 'The Somali Diaspora'. The photos document the transition in the cultural history of the Somali community in America. The photos are of Somalian refugees in Minneapolis and central Ohio.

Sibyl CenterShegoband's appearance is made possible by Sibyl Center's membership in Minot Area Council of the Arts (MACA). Shegoband's tour is part of the Midwest World Fest, a global education and outreach performing arts initiative. One community in each Midwestern state is selected to partner with Midwest World Fest to present four international ensembles over the course of two years.

Ensembles conduct week-long residencies consisting of public concerts, school concerts, and outreach activities in the 10 selected Midwest communities. Minot is North Dakota’s selected community for the 2005-2007 tour. The Sibyl Center is proud to benefit from MACA's partnership with World Fest.

Big Band Reflections Back by Popular Demand (November 19)

Big Band Reflections returns to the Sibyl Center by popular demand on Saturday, November 19 beginning at 8:30 pm.

Members of this crowd-pleasing band are all area musicians from the Parshall and Stanley areas. The band wowed an appreciative crowd at the Sibyl Center on July 2nd.

If you missed them then, this is your chance to listen and dance to their big band sound. We nearly had to hose down this hot band last July! Come see how they can heat up the Sibyl Center on a late fall evening.
