The Sibyl Center kicks off its 2008 performance season Sunday March 30 with an appearance by Minot band, GreenMan. GreenMan features traditional Celtic music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Brittany. The melding of these traditional influences, some hundreds of years old, with contemporary arrangements, has created a unique sound in this four-piece band.
On St. Patrick's Day in 1997, the band GreenMan first appeared. The band members had a mutual interest in the sounds and music of Ireland and realized that some of the best music of Ireland and the Celtic tradition was lost to American audiences. Since then, GreenMan has played for school children, Christmas parties, local pubs, Irish heritage events, the Fargo Celtic Festival and the Norsk Høstfest.
GreenMan sees these events as a chance to demonstrate the vitality of traditional music as its interest grows and adapts to the twenty-first century.
The name "GreenMan" originates from the ancient Celtic myths. The Green Man was the wise man of the forest and represented the cycle of life found in nature.
The members of GreenMan are Steve and Kari Files, Russ Hanson and Justin Rasch. More information at their website, www.greenmanband.net .
There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.
