The Radio Stars

The Radio Stars

The Radio Stars trio consists of 'Magic' Merrill Piepkorn, Gregg 'Smokey Bill' Temple and Roger, 'RP' Sell.

Merrill Piepkorn was born in Stanley and spent his early years on the Piepkorn farm southwest of town. His parents were Herman and Olga Piepkorn. Merrill’s brother, Lee, a lifetime resident of the area, passed away in October of 2006; his sister-in-law, Evonne, still lives on the family farm. Piepkorn currently lives in Fargo with his wife Connie; his son Max is a freshman at NDSU. He is employed by Prairie Public where he hosts the daily statewide interview and discussion radio show, "Hear It Now."

Gregg Temple lives in Mendota Heights, MN, a suburb of St. Paul with his wife, Mary. They are the parents of three daughters, only one of whom is still in college. Gregg is the president of the Label Group for Meyers Printing Companies, Inc., in the Twin Cities.

Roger Sell lives on a farm near Hawley, MN with his wife, Jane. They raise horses and Roger also builds furniture and custom cabinets. Roger and Jane have two adult children and lay claim to being the only grandparents in the group!

  • Piepkorn plays electric and acoustic guitars, the harmonica, and sings
  • Temple plays a myriad of guitars, including the pedal steel, sings, and serves as music director for the group.
  • RP Sell sings and plays bass guitar.

The Radio Stars will perform a variety of music including country western, folk, popular, gospel, and patriotic. They will also be performing a set they’ll be playing Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day weekend as headliners for the Dakota Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Medora. Of course, you can expect to smile and laugh a lot as you become part of the spontaneous humor the group is noted for.

Gregg, RP and Merrill have performed music together in various bands for some 35 years and have recently been performing regularly as the Radio Stars.

There is a suggested donation of $5 at the door.
