Sibyl MacDonald

"Sibyl MacDonald was born June 1, 1891 at Minot. She graduated from Minot high school and the Chicago Conservatory of Music. After that Sibyl MacDonaldshe toured with a Chautauqua group in the midwest for several years.

"She then moved to Sanish, where her parents were then living and taught music lessons. When the town of Sanish was disbanded she moved to Stanley. This would have been in 1945.

"After moving to Stanley she gave music lessons during the school term and traveled extensively during the summer. She had traveled to the far east and Europe and also to Alaska.

"Miss MacDonald was a member of the National Federation of Music Teachers, American Association of Retired Persons, McDowell Music Club of Stanley and the First Presbyterian Church of Stanley.

"When Miss MacDonald died in 1973 she left her estate to various charities as she had no close relatives. A large portion was received by the local Presbyterian Church and Missions."

"I think this recital was no later than 1951. I don't remember that we had 'Junior-high' in Stanley. Weren't we all grade school through 8th grade? LeRita LeMieux was in my class and would have graduated in 1955. She didn't attend high school in Stanley which is why I think this is 1951 or before." — JoAnn Rowe Brown

"This program came out of some 'stuff' in my garage...it had to be 1948 or '49. Don't think it was '51 as that was the last year I took lessons and I remember what I played for that last recital." Dick Jensen

"I agree with JoAnn Brown that the recital was prior to 1951. I quit taking piano lessons after 8th grade (a BIG mistake!) in 1948, and had I continued my name would have been on this recital program. For that reason I believe it was either 1949 or 1950, probably 1950. What is interesting to me is that the last piano solo I learned was Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata, First Movement' and I see on this program that JoAnn Whitmore played it! My biggest regret is not continuing with piano lessons." Carol Jean Wade Lee

Note: The year was 1950; May 7 fell on a Sunday that year.
